Al Rond 1700 komt de naam Blaauwbaai voor in de geschiedenis van Curacao. De naam komt van de toenmalige eigenaar Anno Blaauw. Hij verbouwde gewassen als limoenen, sinaasappels en Wede voor de blauwe kleurstof indigo.
De plantage kende in de loop der jaren verschillende eigenaren, en werd in 1800 geplunderd door Franse piraten. In de 20e eeuw werd de plantage eigendom van de familie Jacobs, die er een boerderij van maakten. In de Tweede Wereldoorlog werden er Amerikaanse soldaten gelegerd om bescherming te bieden aan de Raffinaderij tegen Duitse onderzeeërs.
In de jaren na de tweede wereld oorlog was Blauwbaai een strand waar je zo naartoe kon gaan. Na een slagboom en kleine betaling parkeerde je recht op het strand waar je heerlijk kon barbecueën en van de sunset genieten.
Het masterplan van Blue Bay Resort kwam rond 1990 tot stand. Een lokale ontwikkelingsgroep nam de plantage over van de familie Jacobs en maakte de eerste infrastructuur. Na een ietwat rommelige start begon men rond 1997 met de aanleg van de golfbaan.
In 2006 werd de eerste ontwikkeling voor touristen opgeleverd Blue Bay Village was een feit. De prachtige 53 villa’s liggen in een tropische tuin en als eerste zijn ze niet alleen het ruimst opgezet, maar tevens het dichtste bij het strand! Blue Bay Beach Villas is sinds 2016 de grootste eigenaar/verhuurder binnen de Village.
